THIS IS MY FAVOURITE TOPIC EVER...
Since I was a child I was taught by my own mother to add character to my person with any kind of head gear. Whether it be a hair clip, a headband, a scarf, a beanie, cap, hat, or even a different hair style, with or without embellishments.
I know this isn't for everyone, but for those who are comfortable, or for those who want to learn to be comfortable with it, take baby steps by wearing something small in a place where you feel comfortable. I have honestly worn the craziest outfits at the most conservative places, and felt right at home. It all stems down to the fact that I feel comfortable doing what I like, regardless. When I've chosen to wear something, it means I'm wearing it for me, and no-one else. So, as I always say, do what you like to do to make yourself feel better. And once you have worn that thing you never thought you could, see what happens to you. Usually, it will grow your confidence.
HAT'S RIGHT:
How to choose the right hat or head accessory for an outfit?
Matching the right headwear with your outfit is a balancing act, these are my tips to working it out, before going out. And always do some research on Google, Pinterest, magazines, fashion images and more to get the right look you want. So before going out, first answer these questions, for a well rounded look:
1) What colours are you wearing? Remember to stick to the rule of threes.
2) Where are you going? In the country, or the city.
3) What is the weather like? Summer, or Winter.
4) Is it a casual or formal place I'm going to? Shopping, coffee, party, wedding, etc.
5) What look do I want? Elegant, sporty, country style, workwear, sexy, conservative.
6) How do I want to feel? Warm & protected, confident, to blend in or stand out.
7) How much do I want to cover my head? A bit, or a lot.
8) What type of accessory do I want? A hat, or an accessory.
9) What colour do I want to wear on my head? Same as outfit, or contrasting.
10) Do I own it, do I need to go out and buy something new, or can I make it?
HATS - FOR MEN:
Don't forget for the men who love to wear hats to also match your outfit with the appropriate hat. A cute sporty cap with sportwear or casual outfit, a fedora with jeans, a felt hat with a dressier outfit and a Ben Hogan hat for more fun times. And a cowboy hat whenever you want, I just love them. Don't forget the beanie in winter, for warmth.
TYPES OF HATS - FOR WOMEN:
These are the types of hats to look for when trying to add something extra to your outfit. If you want to take your outfit to the next level, you'll add one of these to the appropriate outfit. Casual with casual, formal with formal. And then mix and match looks if you are brave enough to go rogue. It's all good.
TYPES OF HEADWEAR:
Don't forget that if you don't want to go full on and wear a hat, you can choose to put on a smaller accessory like a cute hair pin with bling on it, a bow clip, or a headband. These can be worn anywhere and everywhere, depending on the outfit and style you choose.
OTHER THINGS TO CONSIDER:
For those who want more, this part is for you, the turban is something not many people wear but I really like. It's not for everyone, but why not try it. A bandana, this one might be a bit old fashioned but it can be a fun piece to add. Or a large scarf wrapped around the head with a large head knot on it, this one is one of my favourites.
TYPES OF FASCINATORS:
The last category in this post is the fascinators, you can wear them at the races, once we are all out of lockdown. Or you can also wear them at a wedding or to a fancy party.
SOME OUTFITS TO CONSIDER:
TIP: For an extra bit of style, cock your hat to the side for some more pazazz.
