THE DEVIL IS IN THE DETAILS

ARE THE DETAILS IMPORTANT?

Many people either ignore or don't know what to look for when buying a garment.

The little details are the ones that make the difference between an average and a good quality garment. You may know some of these, and others might be new to you.

Enjoy another blog post about fashion and how to navigate your way thru it all.

THE LIST OF THINGS TO LOOK FOR:

* The type of fabric on a garment. I've discussed this in more depth in another post, Linked her: https://bubblegumcreations1.wixsite.com/elle/post/fabric-matters

There are two main categories fabrics fit in : Natural or Synthetic.

And a third one is the blends which may consist of half-half.

Always go for the most natural ones you can get.

* A dress with a zipper that is exposed and has no flaps over it. This cheapens the overall look of it.

* Stitching on a garment, is another way to tell if a garment is of good quality. Stitching that pulls on a garment, or is the wrong colour, also make the garment look bad.

* The type of stitching also plays a role. Really good stitching is usually hidden.

* No hem on a garment is really cheap looking, unless it is on very elastic garments that are purposely done to look casual. Natural fabrics need hems.

* The colour of the zipper. The colour should match the garment exactly. The best garments are dyed with the zipper so they can be an exact match.

* The quality of the zipper. Zippers can break easily and are really hard to replace, which means that it can cost you quite a bit in the end. Zippers that don't zip up or down easily are a bad investment. Zippers in weird spots, or ones not long enough on a pant, or too long can be a problem.

* The hardware (metals) need to be all the same. Check to see if all the parts that are added, like zippers, buttons, buckles, chains, studs, tags and other bits, are all the same metal. Either all silver, gold, copper, bronze, other.

* The quality of the buttons. Cheap looking buttons can make the best looking garment very cheap looking.

* The feel of the garment, the softer it is, the more luxurious it is. Stiff fabrics are an indicator of cheap quality. Remember, good quality doesn't always cost the earth.

* The garment has a tag on it in a weird spot. The weirder the placement of it, the less good quality it will have.

* A garment with darts need to have them in the correct place. If they don't fit you well, do not buy it. It is really difficult to adjust badly made darts on a garment.

* The size of the pocket(s) should be relative to the size of the garment. If they are too big or too small they are not well presented on a garment.

* The quality of any ribbons, chords, ties on a garment make a big impact on the overall look of a garment. Take a good look at them to see if they match your style.

* A classy skirt has no split(s).

* If the fabric of the belt on a garment is the same as the fabric of the garment, it is fantastic. This is what you need to look for. Some garments use cheap pleather belts, take them off and replace them with a real leather one instead.

* A zipper on a pair of jeans should be long, not short. And it should be quite thick for better quality.
