FOR THOSE WHO ARE INTERESTED...
The truth is that I have always loved clothes and fashion in general, but I didn't always have the resources I needed to be trendy. I actually grew up very daggy and a minimalist. We didn't have much as in things, but I was very lucky we had many experiences, which shaped my life. And as a result, I have a very adventurous type of personality. I love trying new things out all the time. I'm against being stagnant. I feel alive when I do things, and travel. And most of all, learning new things daily.
The reality is that I received hand-me-downs from my sister who was a few sizes bigger than me. And during my formative years I had to deal with very bad acne, which I tried to deal with very swiftly. Which left scars outside, and in.
ME...
I grew up with very little, but I don't remember it being an issue back then. I was surrounded by a lot of people, and none of us had much or knew anything about fashion, so it didn't matter to any of us as we were all in the same boat. It was also normal for us to be untrendy.
For me, as I grew up, this obsession for fashion started around my teens. And I would follow the super models of the time. This obsession started to grow, and it kept growing as I grew older. Working in the fashion industry, I had some of the best times of my life. But pivoting to new things has been more important to me as the fashion industry pretty much is non-existent in Australia the last few years, what with all the very cheap brands taking over.
As a minimalist, I learnt to be creative as a result of not having much, so I had to learn how to make things fun and interesting for myself. For me to have a bit more I had to invent and re-invent ways to use what we already had, since there was no way of getting more. So I looked around the house at what we already had, so I can turn them into things I wanted, so I guess this is where my love of recycling and thrifting began, before I knew it was even a thing. My greatest thrill is when I get something old, like some fabric or an outfit that would be tossed, and turn it into an exciting outfit, with all the accessories, make-up and hair styles to match. This is where my love of styling manifested. It forced me to think outside the box. And become the creative person I am today. And I thank my situation for it every day.
HOW THINGS EVOLVED...
As a 12 year old, I discovered my talent for drawing. The same year I was taught by a relative how to sew. So I put the two together and went and got my Diploma of Fashion Design. I worked in the industry for over 20 years and loved every minute of it.
NOW...
I am still passionate about learning new and making creative things. I don't know about you, but I am always curious. At my age now, I feel like I still have so much to learn. I love making things daily and designing ideas all the time. My main thing is jewellery. Before Covid I was building my own brand, and it was going really well at the markets. I'm not crazy about online, I much prefer to meet my customers in person so we can connect. I've been told I need to move with the times. I'm not completely opposed to technology or trading online. But I really find fulfilment in the face to face interaction in a casual setting. Hearing stories from great customers is the biggest thrill. That's just me.
LIFE IN THE COUNTRY...
As a city girl, my dream was always to move to the country. What I never imagined was the difficulties that come with it. What I love about it is nature. I am in awe of it every day. And the amount of wildlife I have seen is off the charts. I cannot even begin to explain how smart animals really are. You never see that in the city. But a huge difference from the city to the country is the fashion. Not many people I have met in the country care about dressing up, unless they work at a Real Estate or in a financial or law firm (or the very few brave souls who have their own style). Honestly, during these extended and extensive lockdowns, no one cares less about fashion, and it's understandable. We all have bigger fish to fry. I have had to adapt to this lifestyle and way of life too. But my biggest aim is to build a positive community by teaching women how to dress in their own style with confidence. Even though I think it is really hard for some people to be open minded. And I'm unsure why people don't like coming out of their comfort zone, and getting help for things that they know deep down they really want. I actually don't know why women feel bad for looking after themselves or their outfits, when it's the biggest compliment you could give to yourself.
MY LAST WORDS...
I've had my own struggles in life and I always have used fashion as a crutch. But now it is my passion and I want to give all the info I know to people who want it. Anyone who wants to get in contact with me, feel free to email me at:
I am available for a free one hour styling session for a one on one coaching session.
I also have some slots for photo shoots or art lessons. Send me an email if you are interested in any of these. Or if you want more info on my jewellery. Cheers.
