MY JOURNEY WITH JEWELLERY (HOW IT ALL BEGAN):

I was 8 years old with my long-time best friend sitting next to me in class

and we were so bored I suggested we make earrings out of sticky tape

and Christmas tinsel. So, we did, and wore them the whole day

laughing and having fun. I was hooked from that day forward.

We actually learned to make enamel earrings in school and I fell in

love with it. Skip a few years and when I was just finishing High School

I went to a college to learn how to make silver jewellery

from scratch and it was thrilling for me. A few years later

I discovered beads, and that was it for me.

I knew this was going to be more than

a hobby.

MY MARKET STALLS:

My first market stall was at Balmain Market in 2008.

I then went to Kirribilli and loved it. I even considered opening

up a jewellery shop. I then continued my stalls in Mudgee

and had an online store for a while.

WHAT TO WEAR WITH WHAT:

We always start with jewellery that we see others wear, or what we see in

fashion images or magazines. You eventually find your own style once you

have experimented enough with many, many different styles to work

out what does and doesn't work for you.

But there is a formula:

  • Basic outfit, add one bold statement piece (like big earrings or necklace).

  • Bold outfit, skip bold jewellery all together and wear very dainty earrings.

  • Casual outfit, wear fine jewellery that is not overpowering.

  • Formal outfit, depends on how plain or bold, consider the opposite.

  • Daily jewellery, have your signature look on you all the time.

BOLD JEWELLERY AND WHEN TO WEAR THEM:

There are times in our lives when we all want to stand out or to make

a statement, and what better way than to wear a bold necklace,

large bangles or huge earrings. And why not, right?

You only live once, why waste the opportunity.

DAINTY JEWELLERY:

For the most elegant and classy look, dainty jewellery is your best bet.

They go with every outfit and never overpower any look.

Dainty is better than nothing. French Parisians consider an outfit

with no jewellery an incomplete outfit. Jewellery is the crown

or the cherry on the cake, you just need it.

HAND-MADE JEWELLERY:

This is by far my most favourite group as I have made my own jewellery

since I was a child. But not all hand-made jewellery is elegant or

well made. Look at the quality first before choosing a design.

Really good quality hand-made jewellery can be very

expensive. I don't look at it as an investment so

be careful how much you spend on it.

GOLD OR SILVER?

This totally depends on preference or what colour your veins are:

Blue= cool tones (silver jewellery)

Green = warm tones (gold jewellery)

Aqua = neutral tones (both gold & silver jewellery)

But you do not have to follow this method. I don't, I love both

silver and gold jewellery in different phases of my life.

So can you.

COSTUME JEWELLERY:

This is the most fun category, but also the most overused or cheap

looking of all. Don't get trapped in this loop of buying more to

satisfy just one outfit look. Buy a few to play with and then stop.

You need to go thru this phase so you can level up slowly

and not fall back to this phase later on.

PLASTIC JEWELLERY:

Avoid plastic at all cost, it is so cheap and it also looks really cheap.

This is not a way to elevate your look.

CAN YOU WEAR BOTH SILVER & GOLD AT THE SAME TIME?

Yes, absolutely. Just make sure they aren't clashing too much or

one doesn't overpower the other too much. Both dainty

works the best.

JEWELLERY MATERIALS:

These days jewellery can be made from almost anything from:

  • Plastic

  • Wood

  • Glass

  • Polymer clay

  • Ceramic Clay

  • Enamel

  • Copper

  • Silver

  • Gold

  • Wool/Cotton/Silk

  • Fabric

  • Leather

  • Bamboo

  • Resin

  • Steel

  • Paper Beads

  • You name it, people have used it.

In every colour and pattern imaginable.

To any size you can think of.
