WHAT COLOURS SUIT YOU? :
In the previous blog posts we touched on colour. Really, there is more to it than just finding which category you are in. It is also about what you like and what you want to wear. This post will be about the three main types of groups the experts have set, to make life easier on us. Check out my other posts if you want to read more.
THE FIRST GROUP IS THE WARM TONES :
This is the easiest group of colours to find in stores and online. These are the colours that most people in general like to wear regardless of the group they fit in. And that is okay, but if you want to get the look perfect for you, you need to look at how much it suits everything you own. Colour palette is everything, it is very important for your overall look. This is a great starting point if you are on your journey to a complete closet.
These are a great guide towards choosing the right colours for yourself if you are warm toned.
The cooler months can have the same shades but in darker tones.
These colours suit blondes and light coloured hair, skin and eyes. They compliment each other very well.
THE SECOND GROUP IS THE COOL TONES :
These suit people with dark skin, dark hair and dark eyes.
Sometime, if you want a pop of colour, you can add yellow as an accent colour like the wardrobe below. Or you can go for more purple/pink tones. It's really up to you.
I have noticed people use cool tones in winter, and this is why their summer and winter wardrobes clash. To have a seamless look, you really need to coordinate both winter/summer wardrobes to the same tones. This way, as spring and autumn come by, you can
transition into each season without a hitch. Just a small trick to think about.
THE THIRD AND FINAL GROUP IS THE NEUTRAL TONES :
This group is great for those who don't fit in the above two groups. They are a mix of dark or light skin, dark or light eyes and dark or light hair.
If you're anything like me, who was obsessed with black for most of her life, and all of a sudden discovered neutral colours, you'll find that there are so many more clothes you can wear and the possibilities are endless. Especially when you notice they suit you more than black.
I was, and sometimes still am, a bit on the extreme side. I either wear a whole heap of crazy colours or stick to all black. But there is a whole other world in between waiting to be explored, especially for the people who for the longest time have avoided beige tones and anything white. I think as you grow older you dare to wear what you want not caring what anyone says or thinks. I know i do.
My new found love of neutrals has been an easy transition as I dipped my toes into greys first and saw how much I loved getting out of the whole dark wardrobe and constant blacks. Don't get me wrong, I still like black as a base colour or as an accent piece, but not as my main colour.
Neutrals don't have to be boring, they can be quite exciting, as long as you know what goes with what. And learn how it can look classy and so sophisticated in a very beautiful way. Choose a base colour like a cream or white and add layers to it and then the accessories. I'll get into how to do the whole outfit look in another blog post. And how easy it is to transition from the wardrobe you have to the one you really want. Many more tips and tricks to come.
WHAT ABOUT BLACK AND WHITE? :
I haven't mentioned black and white yet because these two colours suit everyone. They also match with all tones and can be used very cleverly. You can use them on their own or incorporated into your own wardrobe, with warm, cool and neutral tones. But, if you are like me and wanting to get out of wearing black all the time, this guide is the best to try something new that will suit you. Without wasting money in buying clothes that won't suit you, this guide will save you so much time and money by going directly for the tones that pair well. And also whole outfits that go with each other. That is just as important. It will make your life much easier in the end, and you will have many more options when all of your clothes can intertwine with each other.
Also, in between all the black and white there is the grey area. No, not the iffy type, the actual grey colour that can be incorporated into your wardrobe, instead of black. Or you could even use grey with black and white. They make quite a trio.
If you are working on your wardrobe on a super tight budget, and let's face it, in these tough times we all are. It is fine to start with these three and work your way up to your own colour palette. Remember, you can always add colour or swap later on to more adventurous tones as you start to explore new things you like. It is best though when you don't want to spend an arm and a leg on say work clothes, these are safe colours to start you on before taking the leap.
TIP :
If you have a bit of space in your home, try putting a small wheel rack in a corner to sort out your wardrobe outfits. It will come in handy for many reasons down the track.
