HOW TO DRESS FOR THE TRANSITION PERIOD:
Now that summer is over in Australia (and NZ), the cooler weather is here and so are the warmer clothes and soon the fireplaces in the country will be blaring.
This may be the hardest time to dress well as you never know when the sun will be out, the rain will fall, or when the wind will blow your sox off. My theory is to dress in layers.
Not like the layers we wear in winter, because I don't know if you're like me but I do not wear the fanciest tops under my jumpers in winter. But in autumn I think you need to wear every layer as if you may be seen in them in public with them.
They also need to match, suit the whole look and not be too big and bulky.
Look at these images to see what I mean:
WHAT TYPE OF LAYERS TO WEAR?
It's better to wear lots of thin layers rather than fewer thick ones. With thin layers you can take them off and put them back on easily and carry them around with you.

DRESSING FOR ALL WEATHER OCCASIONS:
Why is it important to dress for the weather conditions?
For me, it's all about having the correct body temperature wherever you are and go.
I feel the cold really easily and get chilblains (for those who don't know, it is something that happens to my blood as soon as the cold weather starts, and you see it in the swelling of my fingers and toes), so it is important to keep the body warm, but not too hot. Also, I keep an umbrella in my car all year round, you may keep a raincoat if you want. Or you can carry it in your bag, but I find them heavy and not necessary all the time. Check these outfits:
HOW TO LAYER IN AUTUMN?
Start with the first layer closest to your body:
Wear a singlet or tank top, this will keep the heat in your body for longer.
Then wear a nice long sleeve top or shirt.
Then a thin jumper.
Then a denim jacket or blazer.
Then if it gets really cold you can wear a trench coat or thicker jacket.
You can wear jeans or pants.
Or a skirt with tights.
Your shoes should not be big and clunky, they may be some nice ankle boots with a small heal but not like heavy winter boots.
You should wear the appropriate socks, but again, not too thick and heavy, you should those for winter.
No need for woolen winter gloves, beanies or scarves just yet, they will be needed in winter when the cold and windy days get bad.
You can still wear your sunglasses if the sun is out.
And even your sunscreen if you are worried about the UV rays.
