HOW TO COPY AN OUTFIT

Updated: Aug 11, 2020

HOW DO YOU COPY AN OUTFIT? :

It is a skill to get the perfect outfit made every day of your life. The best way to do this is to get inspiration from the people who know how to do it best, those who do it for a living, their job, the people that do it every day. My biggest trick is to get the outfit ready the night before. This gives you the chance to change your mind in the morning.

Firstly, find out what the weather is going to be like, this will determine how many layers you will wear. Then ask yourself a few important questions. What do you want to wear that day? Where are you going? And, what are you going to be doing in the duration of the day? Will you be walking all day, will you be in an office sitting all day and you can wear high heels. Or are you going to a sporty event. Or even a Wedding.

THIS IS HOW YOU DO IT:

You first find the inspiration photo you want to replicate, that you will want to achieve 'the look'. It doesn't matter if the colour, the shape or the style isn't exactly the same, to a T, as the ones in the photo. The main aim is to get the overall look. You first need to break it down by each individual item and organise yourself.

An example is:

Once you have found the inspiration photo, you need to get a pen and paper or type a list on your phone or iPad of what you need for this look:

1) A Beige Hat.

2) A long Green Cardigan.

3) A Stripe Top (short or long sleeve).

4) Skinny Blue Jeans.

5) Nude Shoes of your choice.

6) A Brown Bag to suit.

Have a look in your wardrobe at what you already own and then write down what you need to buy to accomplish the look.

You need to physically collect each item individually, and I would either put them in order on my bed or on the floor and even take photos of them together to see if you really like the look.

Then you are ready to go.

An overall overview of how to do it:

1) Find the inspiration photo.

2) Write a list of things you will need.

3) Physically collect the things you already own.

4) Write a new list of what to buy (or borrow).

5) Put the whole outfit on your bed or floor.

6) Take photos of the outfit.

7) Try the outfit on.

8) Take photos of yourself in a long mirror with the outfit on.

9) Put outfit photos in a folder to keep for future reference.

10) Use outfit.

You can do this for many different styles and ideas. It helps to do it in advance for the places you want to go to. You can do it for work, an outing, a job interview, an event, a coffee with friends, for a wedding or anywhere else you need to go. This is seriously the easiest technique to learn how to make any outfit you want to replicate and master.

The more you practice, the easier it gets.

TIP: My best tip for you is to schedule a one hour session for each Sunday, to get the next seven days of outfits organised for yourself, before the week starts. This way, you will never panic again when you wake up late for work or for an event. You can thank me later.
