WHY TAKE CARE OF THEM?:
Caring for your clothes means they will last much longer, look better and have better quality overall. Why wouldn't you want to?
HOW TO DO IT?:
These are my 10 suggestions, just some great ideas to help your clothes last longer:
1) Wash in batches, darks in one pile and whites in another. And you can even have colours in another.
2) Wash your clothes in cold water. Unless specified otherwise, most clothes can handle cold water. It will make them last much longer.
3) When hanging your clothes, shake each piece very vigorously. This pre-irons them and helps to have to iron less. The less you iron, the better it is for your clothes.
4) Try not to use pegs if you can avoid them.
If you can dry your clothes on a line indoors it will mean you can avoid pegs as the wind will not take them off the line.
5) Steam your clothes instead of using an iron. It is so much better for longevity of clothes. If you are about to buy an iron, I would suggest getting a steamer instead, it will steam silk, linen, cotton, even synthetic clothes to perfection and so much easier and faster. Try it out.
6) Don't leave clothes out in the sun too long. As soon as they are dry, take them off the line. The longer you leave clothes out in the sun, the more they will deteriorate.
7) Fold and put clothes away, straight away.
It helps them aerate. And you'll be able to use them faster.
8) When trying outfits out, don' leave them on the floor, or bed, or chair. Put them away straight away. Then they won't get crushed and need ironing again. And you won't step on them.
9) When you purchase something new, cut the tags off, it gives you ownership. And it means when you want to use them, you won't have to fumble to look for scissors to cut the tag off.
10) Mend or replace clothes you wear often. Example: if you wear a white t-shirt daily, they don't last forever, so go and get a new one to put in it's place when it not wearable any more. Or sew a button back on to a shirt.
TIPS: Always buy natural fabrics with better quality.
Wear something more than once, if it can take it (example: jeans).
Wash delicates by hand.
Avoid the dryer.
Wash t-shirts inside out that have Logos on them (or stamps).
And make the care of clothes simple.
